DEFINE DEMOCRACY, TYPES OF DEMOCRACY AND FUNCTION

Democracy can be defined as one in which people exercise their political right through periodic election and it also be defined as the system that has been proven to fit into the modern society, although Abraham Lincoln defined it has the government of the people by the people and for the people.

The practice of democracy is seen to eradicate the former military system of ruling, the military men take over power through coup d'e tat and it is never through a successful or easy way of obtaining post but rather people make bloody and kill one another in the system just in the name of overthrowing each other or one another.

With the help of a democratic system there is the freedom of express and the press are not censored to carry out information on what is going on in the society, the freedom of movement with this form of system is highly respected, people or citizens of a particular country can move from one place to another in their country without restrictions from any boundaries, the practice of democracy will help a society at large to quickly get to its attainment point and with this system there is the linking bridge between the people and the government of that particular country.

As militarists dim it fit to let press freedom be a priority so as democracy make it a thing of high integrity and the press never get restricted or censored on their work or concerning what they do, the militarists are like evil who disturbs the means of peace or what I called "better society", and without a better society there is no how the good livelihood of the people inhabiting a country will worth it, they keep living in fear of the militarist and could not express their right.

· DIRECT DEMOCRACY : this is one in which people comes together to debate on a particular issue in an open space, this has been and practice formerly used in the old Athens in Greek, this is the oldest and it is use by communities that are not too large in size.

· INDIRECT DEMOCRACY : this is the modern form of democracy whereby people of a country come out to vote for their representatives in a general election of which results in the idea of majority rule.

FUNCTIONS OF DEMOCRACY

IT CREATE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF THE COUNTRY AND THE CITIZEN THAT RESIDE IN IT : the citizen of a country through democracy get link with the government of the country and get along with each other with the few time the new government will use with them, though government is a changing factor in a state but it is still vital for the society at large.
IT CREATE UNITY : in democracy there is a form of unity that exist between the people inhabiting a state, most especially a federal state with different ethnic groups and culture practicing democracy, they (the people) enjoy unity compare to a militarist ruling a large culture society, the number one thing they ( militarist ) aim is the abolition of he constitution and the bringing in of another based on the opinion of the newly assumed tyrant.
FREEDOM OF SPEECH : in a democratic state there is always freedom of speech compare to a military state that even if you try speaking up you will end up dead or jailed, people say "in a military system, there is freedom of speech but freedom after speech i cant guarantee you", so see this perception and compare it to a democratic system that does things with free and fair manner.
FRANCHISE : people has the right to vote and to be voted for in an election, people's franchise i.e right to vote and be voted for are not taken away of from them but rather, they (democratic leader) don't deny them of their right to express it.
PUBLIC OPINION : in a democratic state, the opinion of the people are seek in most or some aspect of decision making in order to avoid controversies when the law has been assented by the president or in order just to be accountable to the people, every democratic leader should always present how the insides of his administration is going to the public, though their are some things he kept confidential but the vital one are still what are meant to be said, and people opinions should be prioritized before government decision is being made.
BETTER ECONOMY : though some of the countries in Africa are yet to have better economy with the practice of democracy, the developed states or countries like UK, USA, RUSSIA and so on are enjoying better economy through the practice of democracy.
