Honesty can be said to be as an act of being straightforward, transparent, reliable, open minded in actions and doing. 

To be honest is to be Ernest that is to be truthful, upright, trustworthy, sincere and not dubious in act and action, cheat or hide fact when it is to be revealed, an honest person will have courage to say the truth no matter what outcome it will bring, in past times, we have many people who dim it fit to follow the wayward ways of which has taken over the world of today, they were honest not to the people of their country alone but to other folks and tribe, people like Nelson Mandela, he is a South African man who we all know to be honest and have boldness to stand against racial discrimination among the people of South Africa, he not only did that but was also honest with the presidential post, he did not because of is 27 years he already suffered in prison and for that took hold of the power for long time but he was rather a democratic leader who hand over power at the end of his very first tenure, what an honest man?

Honesty as a value help to promote mutual trust among members of a society. That is why we should be honest in dealing and relating with people because honesty as we all know tends to be the best policy ever one can have, one of the basic values we cannot do without is honesty, without it people go wayward and there is dishonest everywhere of which can cause chaos among folks, family, peers, friends and so on, but the presence of honesty brings trust to the mind of the parties in a relationship or who shares something in common.

ATTRIBUTES OF HONESTY 

1. FAIRNESS : An honest being is always fair when it comes to judgment of case, he upholds the principle of fairness in all what he does, he goes straight and see the right from the wrong, he assert perfect judgment to it and not being biased or partial, fairness is to move to the point and not siding one part even though that is to be blame, to be fair is to be honest about cases. 
2. TRUTHFULNESS : An honest person see truth has one ingredient to make life better,  no matter what the case is, an honest person will not put up lies to free himself but rather he say things in a way that he or she will be forgiven even if he is at fault, the truthful aspect of honesty is that they (truthful person) are rigid and belief to say the truth and truth alone at all time no matter what. 
3. HONOUR : A honest person is a man of honor because he is able to keep his words. He will also be respected and honored by everyone because of his honesty, the honour one get from being honest don't only sustain on that individual alone but extends unto his children and children's children, and as you can see the honesty of one man grant all the rest a good honour, so dare to be honest. 
4. INTEGRITY : integrity is said to be having strong, moral standard, therefore a honest person must have integrity and he must be well respected in the society he or she resides in. Honesty is one thing one must not try to compromise in any situation, one has to be honest because it brings respects on anyone who wheels it, the beginning of being well respected is to start being honest, the integrity of man lies in the level of his honesty. 
5. BOLDNESS : when you are honest, you will be very very bold of what you are saying, some people say things wrong and they get jailed or get to prison just because they weren't honest, when you are honest with what u are doing, you will be bold to summarize it for anyone, and being Bold is one big element of honesty, a honest person must be bold enough to face the consequences of his being honest. He or she must be ready to say is part not minding whose ox is gored. 

BENEFIT OF HONESTY 

• Honesty shows a person, community, people, group, organization, country in a good high manner. With honesty residing in a community, people who resides around it belief that it is the perfect place where things works. 
• Honesty as a value usually leads to socio-economic and political development. Honesty is important thing that promote fast development in all ramifications and consequences. 
• Honesty brings about the equality of everyone in the society, it gives respect to whom is due to, for instance a judge who is always fair with cases and has never go biased before will be regarded as an honest person of integrity. 
• Honesty attracts reward and recognition to a person 
• There is always a sense of fulfillment in such society and set goal will be achieved. 
• There is the absence of chaos, war, fight and so on where there are honest men and women, this society believes in themselves and are always straightforward to the call with each other, the betterment of a society also lies in the level of it honesty that the people who resides in it have.
